Research Security During Foreign Travel

The University recognizes the importance of international travel and global programs to its academic mission. The University may grant exemptions from the University’s current travel restrictions for carefully planned trips.  The University has appointed an International Travel Oversight Committee (“ITOC”) that must approve requests for international travel to countries for which such warnings are in effect.  This policy applies to all University faculty, staff, and students traveling internationally (all countries including Mexico and Canada) on university-related business and/or university-sponsored programs (with or without university funding). Travel Exemption

Regardless of destination, registration with On Call International is mandatory for all University-related international travel for students, faculty and staff.  Registration is automatic when using University’s contracted travel agency (CTP).  If the travel arrangements are made by a third party (such as a hosting institution covering the cost), travelers must enroll manually with On Call International.

Application for Exemption from Travel Restrictions needs to be submitted if the destination country is on the U.S. State Department  Travel Advisory Level 4: Do Not Travel or Level 3: Reconsider Travel or if the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Travel Health Notice Level 3 or 4 advising against travel.

The  FBI Travel Brochure provides information on precautions travelers should take during international travel.
