Advancing research that powers age-appropriate care

Institute on Aging

The natural aging process results in a number of physiological changes—from cognitive decline, to reduced bone density, to a slower metabolism. Better outcomes for older adults begins with identifying the most effective treatments and techniques that account for their unique physiological needs.

With support from the Joan and Stanford Alexander Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston and strategic clinical and hospital partnerships, UTHealth Houston Institute on Aging leverages the expertise of researchers and clinicians across all schools in the university to collectively tackle health challenges faced by older adults.

The Institute on Aging addresses problems experienced in clinics through studies in geroscience, informatics, health outcomes research, and elder mistreatment. These discoveries will lead to the development of clinical assessment tools, age-appropriate interventions and treatments, and educational resources to integrate geriatrics into health systems, ultimately improving the health and well-being of older adults in our communities.

Your support of the Institute on Aging can help define what it means to live happy and healthy as an older adult in Texas and beyond.
