Log 1,200 minutes in this 6-week, self-paced challenge.
1 minute of exercise = 1 point.  Think you've got what it takes?
Work out at the REC, at home, outside or do whatever you gets you going.
This is your challenge.  Do what you love, when you can + track your own results.

Ironman Challenge

Run, bike + swim over 200 miles total in this 6-week, self-paced challenge.
Get laps in our pool, spin on our bikes, run on our treadmills or outdoor trail or do it on your own!
This is your challenge to log more miles than ever.  Because one sport isn't hard enough.
Go where like, when you can + track your own results.
All completing the Ironman Challenge earn a free T-SHIRT!

Workout Relay Race

Feeling fit and up for a challenge?  Grab a partner and see where your team stacks up.
Men's, Women's and Co-Ed Divisions [Minimum 5 teams per division.]
2 person team competing for time doing 2 rounds of each exercise:
1000m row, 50 push-ups, 50 burpees, 50 wall balls and 50 ab mat sit-ups.

Eligibility
Open to All UTHealth Students + Current Rec Center Members
Spots are Limited to 25 Teams

Dates
Pre-register for a date/time to compete between 3/31-4/4 from 12-1PM or 5-7PM.
Walk-ins not accepted.  Teams must register in advance!

Bench Press Competition

Let's see what you got!  1-rep max competition to see who can put up the most weight.
Multiple categories available for weight and sex.
A Personal Trainer will spot for safety.

Spots are Limited to 50 Competitors

Competition Dates
Compete on a drop-in basis 4/7 or 4/8 from 12-1PM or 5-7PM.

HeartCode Basic Life Support (BLS) For Healthcare Professionals

American Heart Association Certification Course (Combination eLearning + In-Person)

Recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED + relieve choking safely.
Blended learning combination of self-directed eLearning (online portion) followed by a hands-on (in-person) session.
Online and in-person sessions require separate fees and registrations.
Certification by American Heart Associated is valid for 2 years upon successful completion of course.

Eligibility
Open to UTHealth Students, Rec Center Members, Eligible TMC Institutions + UT System Alumni

Dates
Offered the 2nd Tuesday of Every Month:
January 14th
February 11th
March 11th
April 8th
May 13th

*Minimum # of participants must be met the Friday prior to class.

Times
12:00 - 1:00PM (For up to 6 participants.)
1:15 - 2:15PM (If 12:00PM class is full.)
2:30 - 3:30PM (If 1:15PM class is full.)
Participants will be assigned a class time upon enrolling.
Registration prior to day of class is recommended!

In-Person Hands-On Session
Paid directly to the Recreation Center:
$45 - UTHealth Students
$52 - Current Rec Center Members
$65 - All Other Texas Medical Center Institutions or UT System Alumni

Step 1: Visit https://shopcpr.heart.org/heartcode-bls to purchase + complete online eLearning session.
Step 2: Complete this Registration Form.  Then bring printed eLearning certificate + payment to the Rec Center to enroll for required in-person hands-on session. eLearning certificate must be submitted at time of hands-on registration.

Initial Consultation and Fitness Assessment (In-Person)

Identify strengths and opportunities in fitness and aide in setting attainable goals.

Body Composition Analysis
Cardiovascular Endurance Test
Muscular Strength/Endurance Test

Your goals, fitness level, schedule and medical history are all vital.
As you progress, your Certified Personal Trainer will too.

Gain confidence in the weight room and cardio area.
Learn equipment adjustments for proper biomechanics, safety and effectiveness.
