Alumni Spotlight: Tony Stallings, MPH ’24
From an early age, Tony Stallings, MPH ’24, recognized the limitations and inequities that affect the health quality of millions of people across the United States.
“Living in a rural community, I saw firsthand how adverse social determinants of health affected my family and others,” he says. “Being able to address these disparities by shaping policies, programs, and initiatives on a larger scale really motivated me.”
In May 2024, Tony earned a Master of Public Health from UTHealth Houston School of Public Health, where he was active in organizations like the Student Government Association and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He also volunteered with The Cupboard, a school-based food pantry that helps students and staff experiencing food insecurity.
“Witnessing the tangible impact of the pantry gave me a sense of accomplishment and purpose,” he says.
Tony was awarded a scholarship (funded by the Community Health Sciences Research Fund at the School of Public Health), which reduced his financial burden and provided access to resources and opportunities that enriched his academic experience.
Today, he applies his knowledge and skills as a fellow with JPS Health Network, which operates John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
“Looking ahead, I envision myself in a leadership role in health care administration,” Tony says. “My goal is to improve health outcomes and operational efficiencies, ensuring that initiatives are effectively implemented and sustained.”
