About the Program
The Solutions in Action Workshop (SAW) program is one of several community engagement opportunities designed to foster collaboration between the CCTS and communities in need. SAWs are primarily developed for community organizations rather than individuals, with the purpose being to provide those organizations with the knowledge, tools, and skill sets needed to implement an action plan across their community.
What to Expect at a SAW
In a SAW, the leading members of a community organization will engage in a dialogue with resource coaches (subject matter experts) about a health-related topic or specific disease (for example, diabetes, cancer, nutrition, substance use, food insecurity, etc.). The group will work together to create a 1- to 2-year action plan that the organization can take back to its community and implement.
The resource coaches listen to the current needs and previous efforts of community organizations and provide expertise, including evidence-based interventions and valuable strategies, on how to address the topic at hand. Collaboration between resource coaches and community organizations is essential to achieving a thorough and accurate understanding of the community's health needs and developing an effective, solution-oriented action plan.
Participation is Free
SAWs are offered free of charge to community organizations in Houston, Northeast Texas, and the Rio Grande Valley. The SA Workshops are led by the community organizations and are designed to be flexible and hands on. This allows the community organizations to identify and present the health-related issues to be addressed during the SA Workshops. Our team provides support throughout the planning process to assist the community organizations in preparation for their workshops. An SA Workshop typically lasts 3 to 4 hours.
