Facilitating multi-site clinical trials

The national CTSA program’s Trial Innovation Network (TIN) exists to streamline the design, recruitment, and conduct of multi-site clinical trials funded by NIH grants. The TIN offers NIH-funded investigators help in all stages of trials, including initial planning, and subject and local PI recruitment. Through the TIN, investigators may consult with experts in trial design and conduct. The TIN also contacts CTSAs across the country to identify local PIs who can recruit subjects for multi-site trials being conducted with the assistance of the TIN.

Each CTSA has liaisons who oversee interactions with the TIN and are able to:

  • Assist CCTS investigators who wish to apply to consult with the TIN on their NIH-funded multi-site trials
  • Respond to TIN requests for potential site PIs at the CCTS who could accrue subjects for multi-site trials originating at other CTSAs

CCTS investigators interested in these interactions with the TIN may contact Yuko Yamamura (above).

For assistance with multi-site trials not funded by NIH, the CCTS has other resources, including the Clinical Research Units and the Clinical Trial Resource Center. Our CCTS institutions are part of a University of Texas system—wide IRB reciprocity agreement, which we use for multi-site trials, along with several commercial IRBs and CTSA common IRBs. Please consult the Clinical Trial Resource Center for advice on which system would best suit your clinical trial.
