The Institute on Aging is a university-wide collaborative effort that leverages the existing strengths and expertise of all the UTHealth schools, including the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Public Health, Biomedical Informatics, and Biomedical Sciences. We offer educational resources and periodic programming.


Carmel Dyer, MD Lecture Series

The Carmel Dyer, MD, Lecture Series is held every third Friday of the month from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM. This monthly lecture series brings together leading innovators in geroscience, clinical research, and healthcare practice to share cutting-edge advancements in aging research and care.

The series provides an opportunity to:

  • Learn about the latest developments in aging science and healthcare.
  • Foster meaningful collaborations across disciplines.
  • Explore key issues and innovations shaping the future of aging research and clinical practice.

We invite clinicians, researchers, and students to participate and contribute to these thought-provoking discussions that support the mission of advancing health and well-being for older adults.

Geriatric Academic Career Award

UTHealth Houston Institute on Aging is proud to report that UTHealth Houston was awarded a Geriatric Academic Career Award from the Health Resources and Services Administration to support Rachel Jantea, MD, MS, geriatrician and director of the Education and Training Core, to provide interprofessional geriatrics training at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and other sites with a focus on age- and dementia-friendly care. The four- year grant will expand the impactful and collaborative work with the Southeast Texas Geriatrics Workforce team.
