She earned a Bachelor of Science in microbiology from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, in 2020, and completed its ROTC program to become a commissioned officer into the Texas Army National Guard. In her current role, she helps plan medical logistics for her unit.

Daniel Martinez decided to become a doctor after seeing medicine in action during his time in the Marine Corps. For Adam Fisher, it was his experience as a medic in the Army. Both have found a home at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston and in a new student group that supports military veterans.

Whether from the pandemic or other causes, nearly all in the UTHealth Houston community have experienced the death of a friend, family member, or colleague. To remember the lives of those we have lost, all six UTHealth Houston schools will observe the Mexican cultural holiday Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with “Día de los Muertos at UTHealth Houston.”
