I. POLICY AND GENERAL STATEMENT
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston ("University") encourages its employees to participate in professional organizations and to produce articles and newsletters on behalf of these organizations as a means of stimulating professional growth.
Employees who participate in publication activities must use great discretion to avoid any compromise of the reputation of the University through an inappropriate use of the University's name, logo and seal: they may not place the institution in the position of appearing to endorse any particular product or service. The University specifically prohibits the use of its name, logo or seal as part of a return address, letterhead or title of a publication.
II. PROCEDURE
Individuals who hold executive or editorial positions with professional organizations and who are assigned agency funds from a professional organization with which to carry out its business may request that an agency fund account be set up through Budget and Financial Reporting to facilitate the disbursement of those funds. The request to open an agency fund account of this kind must be accompanied by a deposit of funds in advance of the performance of duties.
Under no circumstances may state funds or the University bulk mailing permit be used to support such activities. Discretionary departmental funds may be used to the extent they are available.
