Shayan Abdollah Zadegan, MD

Biography

Dr. Zadegan earned his medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences (Tehran, Iran). Throughout medical school and following graduation, his research was centered on neural repair, with his doctoral thesis specifically investigating the two-stage nerve graft technique using a silicone tube. As a postdoctoral research fellow in the Neurology Department of UTHealth, he conducts clinical trials to improve treatments for movement disorders, concurrently leading observational studies to gain deeper insights into the factors influencing these neurological conditions. Research Description

Dr. Zadegan's research focuses on Huntington's disease (HD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). He has been a co-investigator in clinical trials aimed at improving symptomatic treatment for irritability and addressing sleep dysfunction in HD. His most recent investigation regarding olfactory dysfunction in HD explores its associations with cognitive and motor functions, and its potential utility as a biomarker. Additionally, he is actively involved in observational studies such as ENROLL-HD, the largest worldwide observational study for HD families, and GP2, the Global Parkinson's Genetics Program.
