Jane Anderson
As a nurse scientist with the Houston HSR&D Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety
(IQuEST), I have developed a program of research to identify effective health information technology, telehealth modalities and implementation strategies for stroke care and prevention. My funded projects include development and implementation of a telehealth self-management support program for stroke risk reduction, decision support tools for evidence-based stroke care, and a valid and reliable nurse-administered swallowing screening tool for patients with stroke. Additionally, my projects explore the relationship of simulation training on effective implementation of evidence-based practices. I am an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). I have expanded my program of research, developed in the VA, to the State of Texas through collaboration with the Lone Star Stroke (LSS) Consortium; a collaboration among leading medical research institutions in Texas to improve the health of Texans affected by stroke through patient-centered research. I am the LSS principal investigator at BCM and serve as a member of the Executive Committee. In addition to my research at IQuEST and BCM. I am board-certified as a nurse practitioner with over 20 years of clinic experience in stroke rehabilitation and stroke care in the Veterans Administration (VA). I served in administrative roles at the Michael E. DeBakey VA - as Associate Director of the Stroke Center (2008 – 2014) and as Associate Chief of Nursing Research (2014-2017). I now serve as the Director of Education and Research for the VA National TeleStroke Program (NTSP). I am responsible for curriculum development and training interprofessional clinical teams in acute stroke care and telestroke delivery. My work with the NTSP also includes identifying research partnerships to inform the use of mHealth applications and other technologies to improve veterans’ access to the full continuum of stroke care.
