Institute Faculty Member Inducted as a 2024 American Statistical Association Fellow
UTHealth Houston Institute for Implementation Science Faculty Member Samiran Ghosh, PhD, has been inducted as a 2024 fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA). Each year, less than one-third of one percent of ASA members receive this distinction.
"Being named an ASA fellow is one of the highest honors bestowed by one of the largest professional organizations of statisticians and data scientists worldwide," said Dr. Ghosh. "I am humbled and honored to receive this recognition."
ASA fellows are exceptional statisticians who have established reputations with outstanding contributions to the field of statistical science. Dr. Ghosh was recognized for his contributions to statistical methodology related to Intervention Trial design and analysis, among other distinctions and contributions.
In addition to his work as a Core Faculty Member in the Institute for Implementation Science, Dr. Ghosh is also a member of the Coordinating Center for Clinical Trials and Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science. He is a clinical trialist, developing novel quantitative methods for Efficacy, Effectiveness, and Implementation Science-related trials.
In implementation science, Dr. Ghosh focuses on developing Bayesian methods that incorporate data from both the current trial and historical trials/studies to reduce the sample size burden in the current trial. These methods will be applicable to various cluster randomized trials, including but not limited to stepped-wedge designs and multiple crossover trials. He also investigates different hybrid designs and their interplay with multiple testing, type-I error, and sample size-related issues.
