Key Points

Thyroid problems in older adults may be difficult to diagnose.  Hypothyroidism is most often seen in female over the age of 60 years.  Clinical manifestations maybe subtle and can be confused with other diseases found in older adults e.g. cognitive impairment, cardiac disease, mobility disturbances, and emotional liability.
