The first patient was enrolled on March 29, 2022 and 76 patients have been enrolled as of August 12. The last patient is expected to be enrolled on November 20th in an effort to reach the target number of 534. They are averaging about 19 pts per month and enrollment is active to the TMC location with the possibility of opening for enrollment at Memorial City and SW Memorial Hermann locations.

This randomized trial strives to provide care over telehealth channels with remote blood pressure monitoring. Patients are asked to check blood pressure daily and also meet with their outpatient stroke provider at designated times either in person or through video visits. Benefits include a free blood pressure monitor and enhanced post-stroke blood pressure monitoring that is not typically provided to stroke patients.

The study – led by Anjail Z. Sharrief, MD, MPH, associate professor of neurology with McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston – marks a collaborative effort among Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston, UTHealth School of Public Health, UTHealth Houston School of Biomedical Informatics, and UTHealth Houston Institute for Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease.
